Hardwood Forestry Fund

With your support, we have planted over 4 million trees in the past 32 years!

The Hardwood Forestry Fund (HFF) is supported by individuals, foundations, and in large part through contributions from the forest products industry who believe in the importance of hardwood timber growth, management, education, and environmentally sound uses of our forest resources.

We work with natural resource professionals to establish hardwood forests on public land. Many Hardwood Forestry Fund tree-planting projects include the community in volunteer, education-based field days. These volunteer opportunities have allowed students, teachers, foresters, private landowners, community leaders, and citizens a chance to participate in responsible forest stewardship.

The Hardwood Forestry Fund requires sustainable management plans and timber harvest schedules for the seedlings it plants. In this way, we know that the trees will be cared for and that they will be available in 60-100 years to meet our growing population’s natural resource needs.  Supporting sustainable forestry on a local and national level through the HFF is good for our communities and good for our industry.

The Hardwood Forestry Fund works closely with the Decorative Hardwoods Association.

The Benefits of Contributing

Our donors want to protect and preserve our nation's natural resources through programs that will ensure a healthy environment for our children and grandchildren.  Consumer demand for hardwood products applies increasing demand on our hardwood resource base and creates a need for both individuals and companies to plant trees to replace this critical resource. Citizens recognize the effects of urban and suburban sprawl on our environment.

We enable companies who don't own forestland to help grow what they use. Promoting your company's environmental commitment through the Hardwood Forestry Fund is good for the environment and good for business.

Many of our donors are committed to planting ten trees for every tree they consume.  To help you achieve your specific company objectives, you will find a donation amount that corresponds to number of trees planted when you click the Donate Today button.

Project Stories

Since 1990, the Hardwood Forestry Fund has planted more than 4 million trees on 279 projects in 30 U.S. states and 4 foreign countries. Hardwoods planted in the US include red oak, white oak, cherry, maple, black walnut, green ash, white ash, hickory, butternut, and other commercially valuable hardwood species. International projects planted mahogany and teak.

Projects are varied in their diversity and scope, but each one has provided a critical need such as establishing high quality, available hardwood forests; educating the public about the compatibility of sound forest management with environmental responsibility; enhancing wildlife habitat; promoting soil and water conservation; and creating partnerships between community, industry, and public natural resource agencies.
